Simply me, a Swede in LA

It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and then don't say it.

Kate looks good...but TOO slim!

Sorry I haven't been writing a lot, my family's taking up all my time (in a good way), on Monday we went to see the taping of Jay Leno Show with Kate Bosworth as one of the guests and let me tell ya, she was SKINNY! I mean, we all know she has been losing weight for the past year or so but now we're talking Nicole Richie-skinny! I really like Kate but she needs to put on some weight dude... I guess her on-off relationship with superhunk Orlando gives her a fair share of stress as well as the pressure of looking stunning at your first big movie premier.

Anyway, she looked absolutely stunning in a simple yet unique assymmetrical cut, strapless LBD and gorgeous black Christian Louboutin peep-toes *drool*

Happily ever after?

Finally they're married! She cried, he cried...you know, the usual, but hopefully they'll be happy together.

Midsummer

This year I didn't get a chance to celebrate midsummers eve but last year we had a wonderful time and I looked like this:

Family plans

With my family being here I'm not really able to blog as much as I'd like to but I'm not gonna stop :) So far we've just done the basic stuff like Venice beach, Santa Monica, 3rd street and Hollywood, but this upcoming week we plan on going to San Diego, San Fransicco and The Jay Leno Show (my brother's request)

We're also watching the world cup! The Sweden-England game was just totally awsome (and I don't even really like sports), we watched it at an English pub and there were 5 Swedes total incl. us but we were louder that all the English supporters :) Man, were the pissed when we scored our second goal at last minute! *Haha*

Welcome to the dark side...

Brit has gone dark and do we dare hope that this is all part of her rebelling against how her life ended up? Will she finally divorce that no-good-haven't-changed-his-shirt-since-we-first-laid-eyes-on-him-douchebag-husband of hers and become a sexy, singel mom of two? Here's hoping...

Another closet-find

I also found another dress that's been hiding in my closet, a vintagedress from the 80's that I took the shoulderpads off, nice blue with white flowers and a belted waist, perfect for summer :)

Paris' dress

When I saw this picture of Paris' dress I remembered that I have a dress that looks almost exactly the same, but coral-colored!

Now, mine is full-length (sorry about the weird light in the pic) so I was thinking about cropping it off, either to the same length as Paris' dress or shorter... What do you think?

Finally!

Tomorrow night my mom and my little brother are finally coming to visit me and I can't wait! Before I moved here I could have never imagined what it would be like to only see my family and friends twice a year, christmas and summer, but now I can tell you, it's absolutely horrible! It's easily the worst part about living in LA, sometimes I just miss them so much I don't know what to do.

There's also always that fear that something will happen to my family while I'm here and there's nothing I can do and now I realize what my husband went through when he was living in Sweden...

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to showing my family Los Angeles and they're staying for almost 3 weeks so there'll be plenty of time to do everything they want and then we're going home to Sweden and I get to see all my friends and my dad again! Love you daddy!

Just shut up!

Jessica Alba is quoted in In touch magazine saying:
"I have curves, but I don't really like them. I wish I was skinnier and taller."

Way to give the rest of the world huge beach 2006-complex!

Oh, just f*ck off...

Vintage find

For the longest time I've been looking at this dress from ASOS

really like the bare back and the bow but I never did like the front of it + even though it's not THAT much money, it still seems a little much for somebody who shouldn't be shopping at all...

But then the other day I was in one of my favourite vintage stores and I found this beautiful dress! It's a 60's style mini dress, with a very low back and even the little bow in the same place as the ASOS-dress and lace-like lining along the neck and back. And come fall, I'll be wearing this dress with a longsleeve white shirt underneath for the right look.

She's baaack :)

Yes baby I'm back again!

Just a friendly reminder :)

This is an AFFORDABLE part of my list, I don't even dare to dream what I'd wish for if the sky was the limit....

The dress is wonderful, it hugs every curve! Can you say hourglass?

Going crazy!

I've realized something, no internet at home means almost complete isolation and it sucks!

Thank you guys so much for sticking it out, hopefully it'll be fixed soon and in the meantime I'll try to blog from work or (like now) at my husbands job :)

I'm not dead...

Ok, so the reason why I haven't been writing is that pour internet suddenly decided to die, leaving us virtually isolated from the outside world, or at least, Sweden. No internet for us means no email, no blog AND no phonecalls since we have Skype! Hopefully they will fix it soon...

Coincidence of the week: My husband almost got run over at a crosswalk by none other than Cisco and Misha Barton! Only in LA, right?

Jessica's biggest fan?

Ashlee Simpson seems to be her sister Jessica's biggest fan. After all, don't they say that imitation is the best form of admiration?

Firtst came the hair....

Then came the nose....

And now the lips...

Y'all remember what she used to look like?

My guide to LA

Elin asked if I could give some tips on what to do in LA and sure, why not? Now, I'm not by far an expert on LA but I'll try my best :)

The Typical Tourist Stuff:
Hollywood Blvd: A good idea is to start at the corner of Hollywood Blvd and Vine Street and then work your way down along the stars (and don't forget to find YOUR favourite star and take a picture next to it) to the essentials such as Graumann's Chinese Theatre with all the hand- and footprints of the rich and famous. Next to Graumann's there's also a nice little shopping centre where you'd want to make it up to the 2nd or 3rd floor so you can see the Hollywood sign!
Also, if you get a chance (and want to spend a couple of hours in the dark), I suggest you go see a movie at the famous El Capitan movie theatre.

Sunset Blvd: Driving down this street is an experience in itself, from the blocks in Hollywood where you definately don't want to be alone at night (Hollywood in general is not a nice area, full of shitty apartments and stripper stores), to the huge, fancy houses down the street.

Map of the stars home: Ok, this is probably the most successful "we're-tourists-please-make-money-off-us"-scam ever created! Along Hollywood Blvd you'll see plenty of signs saying that you can by a map to the stars home, well how exciting! To see where the stars actually live, maybe even run in to one of them! Well, reality check *Bam*. Yes, I do have personal experience on this matter but only because my friends friend from NY really wanted to do it. So what's wrong with a little fun and driving around to see famous people? Nothing, IF you're only doing it for fun, love to drive up really high hills on really narrow, curvy roads and don't actually expect to see any celebs!
Cause the fact is people, most of these maps are very inaccurate, they have dead celecrities addresses (and NOT in the churchyard), and couples that split up years ago appear to still be living together in houses that no longer exists!

Of course, the touristie stuff could go on forever, especially if you want to travel around LA too, there's Disneyland, Universal Studios, Santa Barbara, Sea World in San Diego and hey, why not a day-trip to Las Vegas? Only takes about an hour to fly there :)

Nightlife:
For a good night out I definately go to Hollywood! Avalon and Spider Club are sooo much fun and you're almost certain to catch some celebs partying it up as Spider Club is known to host famous guests such as Mischa Barton, Christina Aguilera and Paris Hilton. A little closer to my place is Century Club which is also a lot of fun with the right crowd :) Just remember that you have to be 21 yrs to drink in this country and some clubs have differents sections for people over/under 21 yrs.

Oh The Shopping:
Well, this is my area :) Where you go shopping basically depends on your budget. For simple, close-to-the-beach-all-in-one-shopping you definately want to hit 3rd street promenade, where you can find practically everything to reasonable prices in chains and department stores such as Macy's, A&F, Sephora, Zara and Forever 21. A block down at 2nd street you can find Little Britain with pubs and shortbread all over the place.

For people with a bigger wallet, I would suggest Bevery Hills, walk along Robertson Blvd (Kitson). Melrose (Marc Jacobs), and of course Wilshire Blvd where you'll find Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue, as well as Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace and Louis Vuitton.

If you're looking for more independent and new designers, Main Street is your choice, and since I love vintage I have to include some of my favourites like Polkadots and Moonbeams, Wasteland (I normally go to the store on 4th street since it's so close to the promenade but they have a bigger one on Melrose as well), Decades has vintage Fendi, Gucci, Prada and more! A little more expensive but you can make amazing finds! Buffalo Exchange is not as well known but has kinda the same stuff as Decades, lots of labels and good prices, gotta love that! Lily et Cie is a store I have yet to visit but with their beautiful vintage gowns by Chanel they've dressed quite a few stars for the red carpet.

The Beaches:
Since I live closest to Santa Monica Beach with the pier and "old-fashioned" little stores, that's where I spend most of my time, but if you want a more lively beach I think Venice is a good choice, daily freak-shows, the famous outdoor gym, the looong rollerblading strip and little shops all along the beach.
If you want to check out the surfers and maybe even a star or two (even though most of them have their private beach strip), head over to Malibu! Where every star has a house and every house got a pool...

Did I forget something really important? Just let me know :) And also, I can only speak for myself, these are the things that I know about and I'm sure not everone will agree.
